El gobierno de Brasil declaró este miércoles que la seguridad energética está "asegurada" y descartó reimplantar el horario de verano este año, una idea de ahorro eléctrico asomada en septiembre cuando el país sufría una sequía sin precedentes."Llegamos a la conclusión de que no hay necesidad de decretar el horario de verano para este periodo", dijo el ministro de Energía y Minas, Alexandre Silveira, en una rueda de prensa.El gobierno del presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2023-2026) informó en septiembre que evaluaba adelantar los relojes, preocupado de que la peor sequía desde que comenzaron los registros, en los años 1950, y la ola de incendios provocados pudieran comprometer la operación de las centrales hidroeléctricas.Pero Silveira afirmó que el mayor país de América Latina tiene su "seguridad energética asegurada" y apuntó al "inicio de un proceso de restablecimiento, aunque todavía muy modesto", de la matriz hídrica.Según el ministro, los estudios no apuntaron a un ahorro significativo de energía con el horario de verano, que busca contener el pico de consumo eléctrico entre el fin de la tarde y el inicio de la noche, cuando se reduce la energía solar y eólica, que respaldan a la vasta red hidroeléctrica.En la práctica, la medida consiste en adelantar una hora el reloj entre octubre o noviembre y febrero.Según Silveira, el "pico" de costo-beneficio ocurre hasta mediados de diciembre, pero este año el gobierno solo podría implementarlo a partir de mediados de noviembre para dar oportunidad a los sectores económicos de adaptarse."El costo-beneficio sería muy pequeño", afirmó el ministro, quien señaló que el asunto será nuevamente considerado en 2025 "y todos los años siguientes, en especial cuando vivimos los efectos del cambio climático severo en Brasil y el mundo".El horario de verano fue instaurado en Brasil en 1931, pero fue suspendido en 2019, durante el gobierno del expresidente Jair Bolsonaro, argumentando que sus beneficios no eran considerables y que era impopular.Según la encuestadora Datafolha, 47% de los brasileños se declara favorable a adelantar el reloj- el nivel más bajo desde que empezó la medición en 2017- y una misma proporción, en contra, mientras que 6% se mantiene indiferente.Silveira subrayó que la medida tiene "reflejos" positivos y negativos en el sector eléctrico y en la economía del país.rsr/raa/ag

El exzar antidrogas de México Genaro García Luna fue condenado este miércoles a casi 39 años de cárcel así como al pago de una multa de 2 millones de dólares por proteger durante más de una década al cártel de Sinaloa a cambio de millones de dólares de sobornos.El juez Brian Cogan le impuso 460 meses por los cargos de narcotráfico y seis meses por falsedad documental que cumplirá al mismo tiempo."No lo voy a condenar a cadena perpetua", como solicitaba la fiscalía, dijo el juez antes de anunciar la sentencia ya que "quiero tener cierta luz al final del tunel". J-Hope fue recibido por la prensa y el propio Jin, quien le entregó un ramo de flores, frente a la puerta principal del campo de entrenamiento de la 36.ª División de Infantería del Ejército en Wonju, a unos 90 kilómetros al sureste de Seúl. "Durante mis 18 meses de servicio militar, cumplí funciones de instructor y marché mucho, por lo que vi a muchos ciudadanos de Wonju. Quiero agradecer a los ciudadanos que saludaron y vitorearon a los soldados. Fue muy conmovedor", dijo J-Hope en declaraciones recogidas hoy por la agencia surcoreana Yonhap.
